Construction Engineer

SLB is seeking a Construction Engineer in Georgetown to support facility design, construction and the annual CapEx projects plan.

Key Responsibilities

• Apply a range of skills and knowledge, including engineering calculations, construction codes, material selection and construction safety.
• Validate designs proposed by the Construction Designer (internal or external) and provide the necessary engineering for the feasibility and constructability study of the facility.
• Meet the schedule and advise management of schedule errors and deviations; prepare man-hour estimates for new projects and changes in design.
• Prepare engineering and construction calculations to support conceptual designs, using computer-assisted drafting and design techniques.
• Perform engineering support tasks such as updating lists, filing prints, distributing drawings, making simple calculations, proofreading reports and compiling purchase orders and costs of materials and services.
• Check the work of other designers and drafters.
• Ensure project and company procedures are followed.
• Use information from vendor prints, catalogues and technical manuals to do design work.
• Mentor less experienced facility team members.
• Q-HSE coordination: supervise direct and contract detailed engineering and other engineering personnel.
• Approve work by offsite contract engineers.
• Keep supervisor informed of project progress.
• Stay current on new technologies, materials and processes.
• Travel as necessary to support design projects for field locations.
• Ensure systems are complete, tested, documented, and handed over to operations.
• Ensure the annual CapEx projects plan is completed before the end of the year.
• Collect construction needs from stakeholders to forecast the next CapEx plan.

Requirements/Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• 0-3 years of experience in construction, facilities, industrial projects, oil & gas, energy, or infrastructure projects.
• Basic knowledge of engineering drawings, construction methods, and engineering calculations.
• Familiarity with construction codes, industry standards, and safety requirements applicable to Guyana and the Caribbean.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and vendor documentation.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to travel to field locations and construction sites as required (Guyana, Trinidad and Suriname).
• Knowledge of project scheduling software (MS Project or Primavera P6).
• Basic understanding of construction safety practices and risk management.
• Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and develop professionally.
