Head, Network Planning Unit (System Planning & Research Department)

Guyana Power & Light Inc. (GPL) is inviting suitably qualified persons to apply for the position of Head, Network Planning Unit in its System Planning and Research Department, Georgetown.

Job Description
Reporting to the System Planning and Research Manager, the Head of Unit manages the administrative, managerial and technical functions of the Network Planning Unit in line with GPL’s ISO 9001 Quality Management System and company policies.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct research in support of GPL’s corporate aims and national energy priorities
• Develop models for power system studies and simulations, including technical loss profiles
• Guide feasibility, interconnection, facility and system studies
• Liaise with state agencies and GPL departments to identify substation plots and rights-of-way
• Keep the GIS database for transmission, distribution and substation development up to date
• Prepare concept notes, terms of reference, project documents and proposal review reports
• Provide technical input to EPC and IPP requests for proposals and lead site visits
• Train, coach and supervise direct reports and enforce safety and health requirements

Requirements/Qualifications

• MSc in Electrical Engineering plus at least two (2) years of relevant utility experience, OR
• BSc in Electrical Engineering plus at least four (4) years of relevant utility experience
• Circuit analysis skills using PSS SINCAL, PSSE or ETAP
• Familiarity with distribution, transmission, substation and generation systems
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
