Economist (Research Department)

The Bank of Guyana is seeking a suitably qualified individual to fill the position of Economist in its Research Department (Balance of Payments Division).

Job Purpose

Under the direction of the Research Director/Division Chief, the Economist in the Balance of Payments Division is responsible for the collection, compilation and reporting of Balance of Payments data.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect and compile export data (e.g. sugar, rice, gold) and import data
• Collect and compile monthly survey forms on purchases and sales of foreign exchange by commercial banks and non-bank cambios
• Collect and compile monthly survey forms for financial institutions, including commercial banks, insurance companies, development banks, trust companies, pension schemes and building societies
• Collect and compile all statistical and qualitative data on the Balance of Payments
• Prepare and submit quarterly and half-year reports on the performance of the Balance of Payments
• Compile Statistical Bulletin and Annual Report tables, Board Meeting tables and IFS tables
• Follow up with institutions that have outstanding returns and answer queries from financial institutions
• Verify data sent to the IMF

Requirements/Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Economics preferred (a degree in Banking and Finance will also be considered)
• A sound grasp of economic theory and its application
• PC literate with competent IT and presentation skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication, teamwork and analytical skills
