The Guyana Emergency Medicine Authority (GEMA) is seeking a Communications Manager to lead internal and external communications, media relations, and public information initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage GEMA’s communications and public information strategy.
  • Serve as the main liaison with media houses and journalists.
  • Prepare press releases, statements, media briefs, and public awareness campaigns.
  • Coordinate communication during emergencies, disasters, and public health incidents.
  • Manage website, social media, and digital communication platforms.
  • Monitor media coverage, misinformation, and public feedback.
  • Support communication with the Ministry of Health, disaster management agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and briefing materials for senior management and the Board.
  • Support internal communication and staff awareness initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Communication, Journalism, Marketing, Public Health Communication, or related field with 3 years’ experience;
    OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years’ experience;
    OR
  • Diploma with 7 years’ experience.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong communication, media relations, and crisis communication skills.
  • Experience managing public information during emergencies is an asset.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.

Working Conditions

May require extended hours, rotating shifts, weekends, public holidays, and emergency response duties during disasters or major incidents.
