Emergency Medical Dispatcher

The Guyana Emergency Medicine Authority (GEMA) is seeking an Emergency Medical Dispatcher to manage emergency calls, coordinate EMS response, and provide pre-arrival medical instructions to callers.

Responsibilities

• Answer and triage emergency and non-emergency calls using approved dispatch protocols.
• Dispatch EMS and allied emergency resources based on priority and location.
• Provide pre-arrival instructions such as CPR, bleeding control, and childbirth support.
• Monitor EMS unit activity and maintain accurate dispatch records in the CAD system.
• Coordinate with police, fire, healthcare facilities, and other emergency agencies.
• Maintain professionalism and composure during high-stress situations.
• Protect the confidentiality of patient and call information.
• Participate in training, simulations, and quality assurance activities.

Requirements

• Four CXC/GCE subjects including English Language at acceptable grades.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions in emergency situations.
• Basic computer and data entry skills.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, public holidays, and during emergencies.

Working Conditions

May require extended hours and emergency response support during disasters, mass casualty incidents, and national emergencies.
