The Guyana Emergency Medicine Authority (GEMA) is seeking an Emergency Medical Dispatcher to manage emergency calls, coordinate EMS response, and provide pre-arrival medical instructions to callers.
Responsibilities
- Answer and triage emergency and non-emergency calls using approved dispatch protocols.
- Dispatch EMS and allied emergency resources based on priority and location.
- Provide pre-arrival instructions such as CPR, bleeding control, and childbirth support.
- Monitor EMS unit activity and maintain accurate dispatch records in the CAD system.
- Coordinate with police, fire, healthcare facilities, and other emergency agencies.
- Maintain professionalism and composure during high-stress situations.
- Protect the confidentiality of patient and call information.
- Participate in training, simulations, and quality assurance activities.
Requirements
- Four CXC/GCE subjects including English Language at acceptable grades.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions in emergency situations.
- Basic computer and data entry skills.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, public holidays, and during emergencies.
Working Conditions
May require extended hours and emergency response support during disasters, mass casualty incidents, and national emergencies.
