Maintenance Technician (Offshore)

SBM Offshore is seeking a Maintenance Technician who will exhibit a high standard of safety behaviour while carrying out Engine Room maintenance and Engine Room system operation. The technician may be expected to perform maintenance, preservation, welding, machining, pipe and mechanical fitting and related activities, and depending on qualifications, will act as Junior Watchkeeper.
The Maintenance Technician reports to the Assistant Maintenance Supervisor and/or Engine Room Supervisor as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare marine Engine Room or Aft Machinery Space and Utility Systems for start-up.
• Start and monitor marine Engine Room or Aft Machinery Space and Utility Systems.
• Prepare and shut down marine Engine Room or Aft Machinery Space and Utility Systems.
• Follow operational and safety procedures in all aspects of work.
• Isolate and reinstate marine Engine Room or Aft Machinery Space and Utility Systems for maintenance.
• Perform scheduled and unplanned maintenance safely and effectively under PTW Risk Assessment and Management System procedures.
• Ensure work is correctly and accurately identified, recorded and communicated.
• Perform general maintenance, greasing, cleaning, filter changing and housekeeping.
• Operate a lathe, milling and shaping machines, gas arc and/or plasma cutting as required.
• Ensure that any controlled process discharges from the area of responsibility to the environment are within prescribed limits.
• Identify and halt any unplanned gas or liquid discharges where possible, and report them immediately according to policy, procedure and regulation.
• Dispose of equipment, waste or other materials according to the correct procedure.
• Avoid wasting resources such as PPE, stock items, materials, tools or spare parts.
• Carry out the assigned Emergency Response role (see Station Bill).
• Demonstrate competence in Emergency Response drills and exercises.

Requirements/Qualifications

• 3 years’ experience in shipping as a watchkeeping Engine Room rating, STCW Reg. AIII/4, or EOOW STCW Reg. AIII/1, OR
• General maintenance skills including fitting, and Coded Welding qualification.
• VLCC / Large Seagoing Vessel Engine Room or FPSO operations experience desirable.
• Proficiency in English at a minimum of A1 level according to the CEFR international standard.
• Medically fit according to the Company GEMS Instruction Health Requirements to Work Offshore.
