We’re excited to announce the search for results oriented Grid Automation Planning Engineer, to join our team at the System Planning & Research Department – Carmichael Street.

SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Head – Network Planning Unit, the incumbent will be responsible for performing general technical functions associated with the position of System Studies Engineer while, complying with the ISO 9001 Quality Management System, GPL’s Performance Management System (PMS), and other relevant policies and management systems of the Company.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:

1. Assist the Head of Unit to conduct research to support GPL’s corporate aim of SUCCESS, LCDS-2030 and other National Energy Priorities.

2. Assist with updating GPL’s Annual Development and Expansion Programme.

3. Develop and maintain long-term grid automation plans aligned with system expansion and modernization goals.

4. Evaluate and recommend automation technologies (e.g., SCADA, EMS, AGC, PMUs, RTUs, IEDs, FLISR, ADMS, DERMS).

5. Conduct technical studies to assess the impact of automation on grid reliability, stability, and performance.

6. Simulate and model automation scenarios using power system analysis tools.

7. Ensure seamless integration of automation systems with existing grid infrastructure and IT/OT platforms.

8. Collaborate with IT, cybersecurity, and operations teams to ensure secure and interoperable solutions.

9. Provide technical input for automation-related capital projects.

10. Support procurement, specification development, and commissioning of automation systems

Ø Familiarity with GPL Demand Forecast.

Ø Familiarity with electric distribution systems.

Ø Familiarity with electric transmission systems.

Ø Familiarity with electric generation systems- Renewable and conventional.

Ø Familiarity with electric substation systems.

Ø Be conversant with Safety Act and GPL Safety Handbook.
