Job Description/Key Responsibilities

We’re excited to announce the search for a resulted oriented, skill and motivated Network Patrolman to join our team at the Transmission & Distribution Department – AREA WEST.

SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Line Superintendent, the incumbent will be responsible reporting defects in the Transmission & Distribution Network to the Network Supervisor/Line Superintendent / T& D Engineer and Conduct New Service Investigations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:

1. Submit Daily, Weekly and Monthly Reports on the Transmission and Distribution System.

2. Check Transmission and Distribution Structures for structural defects.

3. Check T& D network for the following:

  • Rotten Poles\Stubs and Sleepers.
  • Leaning Poles.
  • Severed and poor earths on Transformers, Dead Ends and Branch Poles Structures
  • Defective Insulators, Lightening Arrestors, R.C.O, SPD and GAB Switches.
  • Defective Cross Arms, Planks and Runners.
  • Overgrown trees within the proximity of Primary, Secondary and Service mains.
  • Breaches of Safety Clearance.
  • Inaccurate guy ratio, Poor or missing down Guys and anchors.
  • Heavy Sagging H.V\L.V. Conductors.
  • Inaccurate span distance according to construction practices.

4. Check overhead structures (Conductors, Line and Pole Hardware Accessories) to affect the Planned Maintenance activity in accordance with GPL’s standards, specifications and norms defined and modified from time to time.

5. Provide relevant and accurate information as it relates to modification of the network and update the database

6. Assist with the Construction, Commissioning and Maintenance of all networks.

7. Assist with the supervision of Maintenance and Emergency teams.

8. Adhere to the Standard Line Practice Codes and Safety Rules of the Company.

9. Ride/Drive the Company’s vehicle as required provided being a licensed driver and certified by the fleet maintenance department.

10. Perform other duties that may be assigned to you within the scope of your employment, from an Authorized Officer.

COMPETENCY PROFILE:

· Thorough knowledge of overhead line construction and design standard practice

· Expertise in diagnostic and troubleshooting of T & D network

· Knowledge of principles of electrical theory as applied to network Distribution or Power Systems.

· Knowledge of fundamental Safety Regulations, First Aid and method of applying rescue operations

· Ability to meet the public and establish co-operative relationship

· Ability to supervise the work of others

· Team Oriented

· Basic Computer skills

Required Qualifications and Experience

1. Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the University of Guyana plus three (3) years relevant experience.

OR

2. G.T.I. Technical Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Ordinary Technical Diploma (OTD) or its equivalent, with at least five (5) years’ experience in the Line Distribution Field at a Supervisor Level.

OR

1. City and Guilds Certificate in electrical Installation Parts 1 & 11 or its’ Equivalent plus five (5) years relevant experience along with Three (3) subjects CXC inclusive of Mathematics and English and one Science Subject.
